Post a new topicby hiteshcjain9 on Wed Dec 26, 2007 5:37 am

Dear Sir,

This is Mayuri from India .
My mother in law has OCD Her age is 59.She is a bit obese. She has been facing this problem since almost 26 years. Also her sisters too have a similar kind of problem.

I would like to share few of her behaviour patterns:-

1.frequent hand washing
2.fear from insects,mosquitoes,flies,etc
3.fear of staying alone at home.
4.fear of going outside alone.she thinks the taxi guy will do something wrong to her or harm her
5.throwing away good food thinking its got contaminated
6.changing clothes 5 to 6 times a day
7.washing the tap on continous basis
8.fear while eating food ,she thinks that something has gone in her food, some insect, etc
9.she also fears from door fittings, keys, clothes at times, etc
10.gets scared to touch money
11.while cooking she throws part of the food
12.fears after the maid wipes the floor with floor cleaner liquid,
13. she constantly tells us also too wash hands
14.mood swings
15 start crying
16.feels sad and depressed
17.goes blank at times

My father in law has been giving her homeopathy medicines since years but it gets worse n worse. She thinks all this is happening to her due to some evil forces and all.She is not ready to accept her behaviour. We all want her to get cured and keep telling her patiently why nothing is wrong ,why she should not wash her hands etc but she persistently does it.
She is in real trouble as she cant even perform her routine things well.
We would like to welcome any suggestions and recommendations from your side.

Please help us.

Hello Mayuri,

Thank you for participating in the forum. Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law's medical problems. There is physician-developed and monitored information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder on this website at the following links:
http://www.mentalhealthchannel.net/ocd/prognosis.shtml
http://www.mentalhealthchannel.net/ocd/treatment.shtml

I hope this information is helpful. Physicians who monitor these forums respond to some posts but not to all, so please continue to post in the forum as you learn additional information.

I wish you the very best.
